Yeah this happened to me constantly in the old farmhouse I rented out near Bellingham, maybe 8 years back. Heaviest footsteps you can imagine, slow and deliberate, right up to the landing outside my room and then just... nothing. No creak of floorboards moving away, no door opening, just silence.
I did the obvious stuff first - checked for animals, loose boards, pipes expanding. Nothing explained the pattern of it. It was always the same number of steps and always stopped in the same spot.
What got me was my dog's reaction. He'd go rigid and just stare at the door. Animals don't lie about that stuff, they don't have an imagination working against them like we do.
Anyone else notice a pattern with theirs, like specific times or only certain nights? Mine was almost always between 2 and 3am which I know sounds cliche but it's what it was. Would be interested to hear if others are tracking this properly rather than just dismissing it.
