Been having this exact thing happen for about eight months now. Started with a specific socket wrench from my Halfords toolkit - put it down on the workbench, turned round, gone. Found it three weeks later sitting neatly on the kitchen windowsill. My wife doesn't go near my tools and I certainly didn't put it there.
Since then it's been a few other bits. A book, one of my reading glasses (had a spare pair luckily), a USB drive. The USB one bothered me most because it reappeared inside a kitchen drawer that we'd opened dozens of times in between. Just sitting there one day when it wasn't before.
What I find interesting is the pattern - it's never anything valuable enough to suggest someone's nicking stuff, and the objects always come back in spots that feel almost deliberate. Like something's making a point rather than just misplacing things.
I've started keeping a log with dates, which I'd recommend to anyone experiencing this. Harder to gaslight yourself (or be gaslit by others) when you've got documentation.
Few questions for the thread:
Does it seem to follow a particular person in your household or is it random?, Has anyone noticed whether it correlates with periods of stress?, Any pattern in the type of objects - practical items, sentimental ones?
Mine seems to cluster around me specifically rather than my wife, and I've noticed it picks up when work gets hectic. Probably coincidence but worth noting.
Would be curious whether others are seeing similar patterns or if everyone's experience is completely different. The variety of reports on here suggests poltergeist activity isn't exactly one-size-fits-all.
