Anyone else getting weird static bursts right before an EVP session kicks off?

Right so this has happened to me three times now up at the old ruins near Barrowford. Before anything useful gets picked up on the recorder, theres this burst of static that lasts maybe four or five seconds and then goes completely dead quiet. I mean unnaturally quiet, like the background hum of everything just switches off.

I mentioned it to a lad at our local group and he reckoned it might be electromagnetic interference before a genuine EVP manifestation, something to do with energy drawing in before it forms into something coherent. I dont know enough about the technical side to say whether that holds up but it does match what Im seeing on the recordings when I go back through them.

What I will say is that every single time that static burst happened, we got something on the recording afterwards worth listening to. Not every session, only the ones with the static. Feels like its telling you something is about to happen. Has anyone else noticed a pattern like that or am I reading too much into it?

@TheGamekeeper823 welcome to the forum, good to have you here.

That pre-EVP static burst is something I've logged a fair few times myself, mostly out at old industrial sites around the Midlands. There's a theory that it's the environment shifting - electromagnetic fluctuations spiking just before a sustained contact window opens. Some researchers call it the "threshold effect" though that term gets thrown around pretty loosely.

Worth cross-referencing your static bursts with a K2 or EM pump reading if you havent already. If the EM spikes are correlating with the static timing you've got something genuinely interesting to document there.
