Anyone else getting weird static bursts right before a clear EVP?

Yeah this happens constantly in my sessions. I use an old Panasonic recorder and there's almost always this burst of crackling static maybe 2-3 seconds before anything intelligible comes through. At first I thought it was just interference from my mobile or something electrical in the room but its too consistent to be coincidence now.

Had a session at a location in the Borders last autumn and the static hit three times over about 20 minutes, each time followed by a clear response. Nothing in between.

Wondering if the static is some kind of energy build-up before whatever's communicating manages to get through properly. Like the signal needs to warm up or something. Anyone tried logging the gap between static burst and the EVP to see if theres a pattern? Curious if the timing varies by location or stays roughly the same.

Not really my main area but I've noticed something similar when I've had audio running during field work for Bigfoot stuff. My working theory is that whatever's causing the EVP is also causing some kind of electromagnetic interference that hits the recorder's circuitry first - the static could literally be the leading edge of the same phenomenon, not a separate event.

Worth checking if the static bursts show up as a spike in the waveform when you pull it into Audacity. If the frequency profile of the static matches anything in the EVP itself, that would be genuinely interesting data rather than just anecdote. Most people just clip out the static as noise but it might actually be part of the signal.
