Yeah this is happening to me constantly and it's doing my head in trying to work out if it's the gear or something else entirely.
Running a Zoom H5 with the XY capsule mostly, sometimes swapping to a shotgun mic depending on location. Three times now at different sites around Pendle I've caught what sounds like a decent EVP - actual words, not just breathing or wind - and every single time there's this weird burst of static about 2-3 seconds before it. Not after. Before.
First time I thought it was interference from my phone (rookie mistake, had it in my jacket pocket). Moved it well away after that. Still happening.
Now I'm wondering if it's some kind of electromagnetic precursor - like whatever's generating the anomalous audio is also messing with the capsule before it fully... I dunno, manifests? Sounds daft when I type it out but I can't explain it otherwise.
Has anyone actually spectrally analysed these static bursts in Audacity or similar? I've been meaning to but haven't gotten round to it properly. Curious whether the frequency profile is different from standard interference.
Also - is this specific to the H5 or are people getting it on other recorders too? My mate uses a Tascam DR-40X and reckons he's never noticed it, but then again he's not exactly paying close attention half the time.
Not ready to call it paranormal yet but it's a pattern and patterns mean something. Probably. Maybe.
Anyone else or am I just talking to myself here.
