Anyone else been hearing weird howling near the Ozarks lately? Doesn't sound like any coyote I know

Not from the Ozarks myself (Oregon based) but I've done enough field recording out in remote woodland areas to know that "doesn't sound like a coyote" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in these reports. What specifically is off about the sound? Pitch, cadence, duration, the way it terminates? Because coyotes can produce some genuinely bizarre vocalisations that most people never hear on YouTube clips - the full group chorus in particular can sound completely alien if you're not expecting it.

That said I'm not dismissing you. I'd genuinely find this more interesting if someone was capturing audio. Even a phone recording is better than nothing - you can run it through Audacity and look at the spectrogram, which sometimes shows frequency patterns that aren't obvious to the ear. Coyote calls have a pretty recognisable signature. If whatever you're hearing doesn't match, that's actually worth documenting properly rather than just posting about.

Anyone out there actually got a recording?
