Anyone else been getting static bursts on their EVP recordings right before something happens?

Yeah this is actually a thing and I thought I was imagining it for ages. Did a session at a supposedly haunted farmhouse in Suffolk last year and my recorder kept throwing out these weird bursts about 30 seconds before my torch started flickering. Happened three times in the same room so I dont think it was just interference or a dodgy battery.

Not sure if the static is like a warning or if whatever is causing the activity is the same thing affecting both bits of kit at once, if that makes sense. Someone told me its electromagnetic but honestly that just moves the question one step back doesn't it.

Anyone else noticing a pattern with the timing or is it totally random when it happens for you? Would be good to know if people are logging the gaps between the burst and the event, proper data would actually be useful here.

Yeah this is a real pattern, not just confirmation bias. I've logged it a few times during poltergeist investigations up here in Aberdeen - the static burst comes maybe 3-5 seconds before something physical happens, like an object moving or a temperature drop. Started keeping a separate timestamp log just for the audio anomalies so I can cross-reference afterwards. The gap seems consistent enough that I genuinely think its some kind of precursor signal, like whatever's building up bleeds into the electromagnetic field first before it manifests physically. Would be interested to know what recorder you're using @DerekHarrison because I've noticed cheaper units with less shielding seem to pick it up more reliably, which is a bit counterintuitive.

Had this happen during a session near Whitby abbey actually, two distinct static bursts about 30 seconds before the temperature dropped and my torch flickered. I started logging the gap between burst and "event" and it was pretty consistent - somewhere between 15 and 45 seconds each time.

No idea what causes it. Some people reckon its electromagnetic interference building up before a manifestation, others think the recorder is just picking up on something in the environment that our senses cant detect yet. The pre-event static theory gets dismissed a lot but when you've got timestamps and temperature logs to back it up it stops feeling like wishful thinking pretty quickly.

Would be worth comparing notes properly on this - like an actual spreadsheet of burst length, gap time, and what followed. If theres a pattern across different locations and different recorders then that's actually something worth taking seriously.
