The Pontefract poltergeist case is one of my favourite British hauntings - proper documented, multiple witnesses, loads of physical phenomena. But I've never actually visited the house itself. It's still private, obviously, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has managed to access it or knows the current situation with the property.

I'm planning to visit Pontefract next month and would like to at least see the exterior and maybe get some readings in the street outside. Has anyone done this recently? What's the vibe of the area now? Is it still considered active, or has it calmed down since the 1960s?

I visited last year. The house is private and the owners are... not interested in paranormal tourism. But you can get decent photographs from the street. The neighbourhood's quite ordinary now - nothing obviously 'haunted' about it in daylight. My EMF meter didn't go haywire or anything, for what that's worth.

The Pontefract case is brilliant because it's so well-documented. Knocking sounds, object movement, all witnessed by police. Whether it's genuine poltergeist activity or elaborate hoax remains debated, but the sheer number of credible witnesses makes it hard to dismiss entirely.

Fair warning: the current residents do not appreciate people turning up with ghost-hunting equipment. I've heard accounts of them being quite aggressive about it. If you visit, be respectful and don't trespass. You can see the house from the pavement without being a nuisance.

The 1960s activity seems to have died down completely, which is interesting in itself. Does poltergeist activity dissipate over time? Does the house 'settle'? Or was the original phenomenon more psychological than paranormal? Worth considering when you visit.
